In 1960 there were 49 movie theaters in Helsinki. In 2006 there are only 8 left.
Kinostalgia is a nostalgic tribute to the old cinemas - to the palaces where the movies (and heck, even movie-goers) were kings. The photographs are taken in fall 2006 in four of the oldest remaining movie theaters of Helsinki: Bio Rex, Orion, Maxim and Forum. (Of which Forum was closed down during summer 2006.)
All photos shot with Holga on Kodak Portra 100T, using available light.
This photo is from Bio Rex, built in 1936. The theater currently hosts various events through the year, but is not in day-to-day cinema use anymore.
